New and old faces alike bolster Netball Queensland’s under-17 and under-19 squads for the 2025 National Netball Championships, with 10 regions represented across the divisions.

The initial group of 63 athletes was cut down last week to 37, a final team of 12 players plus training partners to be named early in 2025 before the National Netball Championships take place in April.

ACU Brisbane North Cougars featured heavily in both with 13 athletes selected - the most of any region followed by Gold Coast Titans with six.

“The talent displayed made the process very competitive with limited spots available to go through to phase two, especially in the 19U age group with several athletes automatically selected due to being NA categorised athletes.

“The 17U age group soaked up the learning environment and the improvement was evident in the last weekend of match play,” Netball Queensland Head of Talent and Development Roselee Jencke said.

Simone’ Botha (ACU Brisbane North Cougars) and Ciarn MacBride (Far North Flames) return as top age under-17s following AIS selection in 2024 while Marley Burns (ACU Brisbane North Cougars), Charlotte Jonsen (North Queensland) and Tia Molo (ACU Brisbane North Cougars) move up to under-19s alongside fourth-year veterans Holly Comyns (Carina Leagues Club Tigers), Jada Delaney (Sunshine Coast Thunder),Sasha -May Flegler (Bond University Bull Sharks) andGemma Hutchings (ACU Brisbane North Cougars) in their final year.

Flegler and goal shooter Kirra Tappenden relished in good news last week, named two of Queensland Firebirds’ seven training partners for the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season.

Two-time Judy Sampson Memorial Trophy winner Ellie Brice is hopeful to suit up for her fourth campaign, as is fellow vet Tia Crombie - who most recently secured her spot on the Cook Islands 2025 Netball Youth World Cup squad.

The highly competitive fields meant some otherwise notable names fell to the omissions list for 2025, including top under-17 middie Ava Guthrie (hip surgery) Leilani Fatialofa (under-17s 2024 moving up age group), Liberty Grohn (TP under-17s 2024 moving up age group), Edie Lenarduzzi (TP under-19s 2024) and Amber Yeates (State Title Player of the Grand Final).
