A young Southern Downs man has been freed from his prison greens after he pleaded guilty to a string of stealing and related offences.
Bryce Trihey, 23, appeared in Warwick Magistrates Court via videolink from Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre for his sentence on July 9.
He was charged with more than a dozen offences including stealing, unauthorised dealing with shop goods, breach of bail, possessing a knife in a public place, unlawful possession of weapons, contravening a police direction, enter premises with intent, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage and common assault.
The court was told the most serious offending was against his mother, with Trihey smashing her iPad. He also assaulted his mother's partner on another occasion and took off in her vehicle, crashing it.
Trihey also took a friend’s vehicle for a joy ride, however it was later returned.
The 23-year-old was also involved in a number of fuel drive-offs and stole $1000 worth of items from Supercheap Auto, with his lawyer Clare Hine telling the court some of those items could be returned.
His other more serious offending including entering premises while armed with an axe.
Ms Hine told the court her client has spent the past 96 days in custody.
Magistrate Janice Crawford described Trihey’s offending as “unusual behaviour” considering his lack of criminal history.
Ms Crawford ordered he pay $2000 restitution to his mother for the loss of her vehicle, which was uninsured at the time.
Trihey received a head sentence of nine months’ imprisonment which relates to the unlawful use of a motor vehicle with the 96 days in pre-sentence custody declared as time served, and an immediate parole release date of July 9.
Convictions were recorded.
