Boyfriend ‘thirsty’ after fatal fall

AS Dan Shearin’s girlfriend lay dying, he allegedly told two strangers trying desperately to save her that he was thirsty and going to get a drink.

In an interview to air tonight on Seven’s Sunday Night, Dan Shearin admits he is an “a--hole” but denies he is a “dangerous man”.

AS Dan Shearin's girlfriend lay dying at the bottom of a Gold Coast high-rise, he allegedly told two strangers trying desperately to save her that he was thirsty and going to get a drink.

Breeana Robinson was 21, beautiful and a cheerleader with the Gold Coast Titans when she plummeted 11 floors from the balcony of her boyfriend's Southport apartment in 2013.

Police initially ruled her death non-suspicious, but in December, The Courier-Mail revealed the Queensland Coroner had ordered police to reopen the investigation to examine explosive medical reports.

Now, speaking about the night of the tragedy for the first time, witnesses from the H20 apartment tower have told how Shearin, 45, who was later found guilty of sending his young lover a stream of abusive text messages in the lead-up to her fall, reacted to the death of the woman he loved.

In a special report to air on Channel 7's Sunday Night program tonight, former H20 security manager Gordon Cassidy tells reporter Denham Hitchcock that as he and another resident tried desperately to perform CPR on Bree, Shearin allegedly told them he was thirsty and going back upstairs for a drink. Shearin denies the allegations about his callous indifference on the night.

"He didn't really say much, and then he turned 'round and said, 'Oh, I'm thirsty so I'm going to go up and get a bottle of water, I'll be back in a minute'" Mr Cassidy said.

"So he went off, I'm guessing probably five to 10 minutes."

Mr Cassidy also found it strange Shearin was neatly dressed when he came downstairs after Breeana fell.

Shearin himself has repeatedly said that he was in bed at the time.

"He came down fully dressed - shoes, socks, shoes tied up," Mr Cassidy recalled.

"If that was me, I'd be running down in me (sic) jocks straight away after her if it was my loved one … so he's obviously had time to get dressed if he was in bed."

It is also understood Shearin's first call was to his lawyer.

It was left to another resident, Buddy Haddid, to call triple-0.

In a confronting interview to air in tonight's program, Shearin admits he is an "a--hole" but denies he is a "dangerous man".

An inquest in to Breeana's death was originally scheduled to be held late last year, but The Courier-Mail revealed that detectives were told to reopen the investigation to examine reports from medical experts.

A spokeswoman for the Coroner yesterday said a date was yet to be set for the inquest.

Breeana's aunt Janine Mackney yesterday vowed to continue seeking justice for her death.
