A Hervey Bay woman who crashed into a parked car after taking meth earlier in the day was later busted with the drug and a loaded syringe by police.

Jodie Marie Bailey pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs, possessing a syringe and failing to dispose of it safely, and to drug driving when she faced Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week.

Police prosecutor Louise McConnell said at 11.45pm on October 7, 2024, Bailey was involved in a crash on King St in Urangan when she hit a parked vehicle.

A breath test revealed a negative result but when she was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital she admitted to using meth earlier that evening.

A blood test revealed a positive result for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

In a separate incident, on April 15, 2025, police were patrolling Torquay when they saw a silver Mazda parked on the side of the road.

They saw Bailey get out of the car and spoke to her. She gave them permission to search her bag.

Inside the bag were several packages of syringe. Police then searched Bailey herself and the car, finding a clip seal bag of meth and a loaded syringe with a clear liquid inside.

The meth in the bag weighed 1.32 grams, and the meth inside the syringe measured 25ml.

Duty lawyer Justin Geldard said Bailey was the mother of three children and was the carer for two of them as her daughter had vision impairment and cognitive development issues.

He submitted a letter written by Bailey to the court explaining her situation.

She was living with her mother and her children, Mr Geldard said.

The trigger of her reoffending had been the release of a former partner from custody.

His release and influence had led to her relapse from a period when she was able to “stay on the straight and narrow”, Mr Geldard said.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie said Bailey had two children who were reliant upon her.

She fined Bailey $850 for the drug driving charge and disqualified her from driving for six months.

Bailey was sentenced to three months in prison for possessing a dangerous drug, wholly suspended for six months.

Convictions were recorded.
