What you said about the bid to make Bluey the 2032 Olympic Games mascot

The race to be mascot for the 2032 Olympic Games is shaping as a truly bizarre battle – and Bluey’s odds don’t look good. HAVE YOUR SAY

Should Bluey be the mascot for Brisbane 2032 Olympics?

The race to be mascot for the 2032 Olympic Games is shaping as a truly bizarre battle, amid calls for the popular children’s cartoon character to get the nod.

“There’s a lot to instantly love about the Paris Olympics, but the Games mascot, known as a Phryge, is a long way from sharing the podium with the likes of the Eiffel Tower and Roland Garros,” News Corp reporter Robert Craddock wrote.

“ … Which brings us to Brisbane and Bluey. It’s quite possible there has never been a more natural fit to a games and mascot than Brisbane and Bluey, the Blue Heeler whose animates television series has swept the globe.”

It seems many agree, with about 80 per cent of more than 1500 online voters choosing blue heeler Bluey as the official mascot for Brisbane 2032.

Readers quickly joined the debate and, while there was a lot of support for Bluey, many claimed there may be copyright issues preventing the promotion.

Others simply didn’t like the concept at all.

While many chimed in with their hilarious takes, some offering up the Ibis, aka “bin chicken”, as an alternative.

Others suggested a “homeless man” – a nod to the city’s housing crisis – and one even tossed up an “eshay”.

Not going to happen

David Byster

As they are owned by The ABC, you will have zero chance, of getting them as Mascots.

Craig Rocky

No. Bluey is a children’s TV character. If we must have the Olympics, as cute as Bluey is, no. Perfect opportunity to work with First Nations folk to come up with the mascot.

Wayne Jackson

NOOOO. What a load of rubbish. It’s a kids cartoon.

Lee Sully

I hope not … be so embarrassing

Jannick Hill

Please don’t ruin a good thing. Leave Bluey out of this disasterpiece that Annasaurus Wrecks created. Barry the bin chicken all the way!!!

Tom Plant

Won’t happen. Organisers will not want to pay royalties for using these popular toys.

Michael Cavanough

Barry the bin chicken

Australian cartoon Bluey to be immortalised with limited edition coins

I have another idea

Enzo Anderson

Maybe a homeless person?

Kate McMillan

Clearly should be a Bin Chicken

Amanda Robinson

No the koala should would be the mascot, not the blue heeler when it has only been premiered in Australia back in 2018, and has always been in America.

Qld Arrow Cat

NO. Why is this cartoon character even a suggestion? Isn’t the Koala the Queensland mascot.

Daniel Malone

No lol 😂 Aussie ostrich would be better!

Ian Niemeyer

No. Matilda the kangaroo is our Aussie mascot

Chris James Duncan-Launder

Should be the bin chicken or the eshay.
