A man is in a critical condition and a second man is in hospital after a serious multi-vehicle crash that closed the northbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway at Beenleigh south of Brisbane.

Police say a stationary Mercedes-Benz van was hit by a Mazda Bt-50 in one of the northbound lanes close to the Albert River Bridge about 7.10pm

The driver of the Mazda, a 34-year-old from Urangan, is in Princess Alexandra Hospital with life threatening head injuries after firefighters had to remove the roof of his vehicle to rescue him.

A second man, a 51-year-old from Alexandra Hills who was the driver of the Mercedes-Benz sustained minor injuries and was transported to Logan Central Hospital.

All northbound lanes were closed after the crash, with commuters experiencing a 90-minute delay from Ormeau to Yatala Pies, but they reopened about 12.10am.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam vision of the moments before the crash is asked to contact police.
