Traffic chaos heading out of Brisbane ahead of Anzac Day

Traffic has returned to normal after commuters earlier faced heavy delays in and around Brisbane leading into the long weekend.

Commuters looking to escape the city for the long weekend faced heavy delays along Southeast Queensland’s major highways on Thursday afternoon.

At 3pm, motorists heading northbound along the Bruce Highway were hit with a 45-minute delay.

The delays were partly due to the result of an earlier crash in Burpengary, which left an elderly pair with serious injuries after their car crashed into a power pole on the Bruce Highway.

The incident resulted in traffic banked up along the northbound lanes of the highway, in Brisbane’s northern suburbs.

Meanwhile drivers heading along the Pacific Motorway also experienced heavy traffic, with delays of up to 40 minutes on the southbound lanes before traffic began flowing again after 7pm.
