Sheppard’s Emma Sheppard elopes in ‘Brisvegas’ wedding surprise with partner Liam

Emma Sheppard and partner Liam have tied the knot in style but it was an experience fraught with hurdles from cancelled flights and a near disaster with her wedding dress.

Emma Sheppard, from the hit Brisbane band Sheppard, and her partner Liam veered from their Mexico wedding plans to secretly tie the knot in a ‘Brisvegas’ style elopement earlier this month.

In an intimate setting on March 8, attended by a close-knit group of 13, the couple celebrated their union with a Las Vegas themed affair at Wham Bam I Do!, complete with a pink Cadillac and an Elvis impersonator, concluding with a reception at Spicers Balfour in New Farm.

The change of heart was spurred by a family health concern.

“Liam’s Dad has Alzheimer’s, and he would not be able to make it to Mexico … it was really important to Liam and his family to have him there,” Emma revealed.

Yet, their journey to wedded bliss was fraught with challenges, including cancelled flights and a near disaster with Emma’s wedding dress.

“Our original flight to Australia was cancelled … And then when we got to the airport, the pilot actually came out and said, ‘Look, this flight is not going to Brisbane tonight due to the toilets not working’,” she recounted.

Amid the turmoil, Emma miraculously found her ideal Vivienne Westwood dress, “just perfectly made for me,” adding a final touch with feathery pink heels.

Reflecting on their unique celebration, Emma shared, “the whole thing I was just really laid back … it’s been so much fun and just really special that we could do this.”

The couple now looks forward to a 2025 Mexican celebration, doubling up on their love fest.

As for married life, Emma’s view is simple: “It’s all the same. I think like just we’ve got even more love for each other than we did before.”
