Premier David Crisafulli is standing by director-general John Sosso’s involvement in redrawing electoral boundaries, dismissing Labor’s list of 44 compromise candidates.
The state government will push ahead with Mr Sosso’s appointment to the independent Queensland Redistribution Commission, despite eminent corruption buster Tony Fitzgerald raising concern about his appointment.
Mr Crisafulli maintained Mr Sosso was beyond reproach, and cited former Labor directors-general Rachel Hunter and Liza Carroll, who were involved in the 2008 and 2017 boundary redraws.
“He’s (Mr Sosso) served his state for a long time, as have people like (former Labor directors-general) Rachel Hunter and Ms Carroll,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“I would point to you to Mr Sosso’s career across both sides of politics over a long period of time, and I think he’s beyond approach.”
Mr Crisafulli did not reveal why he would not consider his own director-general Damien Walker to replace Mr Sosso, as suggested by Opposition Leader Steven Miles as a compromise.
