A Brisbane couple has been charged with attempted murder after they allegedly chased a woman at high speeds and rammed her near a major southside intersection.

A court heard on Saturday how the incident, which took place near Beenleigh Road and Mains Road on June 3, had allegedly erupted over a stolen handbag.

Imogen Belle Alice Hayward, 30, and Youssef Ayoub, 33, were arrested and charged with attempted murder on Friday.

Defence lawyer Ahmed Dib told Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday that police alleged Hayward had asked her partner to “go after” the complainant, Jade Kristen Pepper, after Ms Pepper allegedly stole Hayward’s handbag.

Mr Dib noted the handbag had contained items of sentimental value.

Police allege the couple then chased Ms Pepper along Beenleigh Road and Mains Road at Sunnybank around 3.30pm.

It’s alleged the couple, in a black Range Rover, rammed Ms Pepper’s purple Subaru and pursued it onto the wrong side of the road at high speed.

Ayoub is further alleged to have used a firearm during the incident.

The court heard Ms Pepper is now in police custody for unrelated matters.

Mr Dib represented Hayward in a successful bail application on Saturday, in which the court heard the mother-of-three had no criminal history.

Mr Dib said police alleged in the objection to bail affidavit that his client had attempted to interfere with a witness, who had been Ms Pepper’s passenger, prior to her arrest.

However, he said the identity of that passenger had been unknown to Hayward until she received the affidavit.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop noted Hayward was alleged to have told Ayoub: “Me and Tabitha are going to f**king eat her”.

“Who’s this Tabitha person?” she asked.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Barnes said it was unknown, and suggested “it could be a dog.”

Ms Mossop granted Hayward bail under conditions that she have no contact with her co-accused, Ms Pepper, or any witnesses.

Hayward was further ordered to report to Browns Plains police station twice a week and not to go to Belmont, where the court heard the vehicle was seized.
