Ellyane Wall has been endorsed by the Northern Territory Greens as part of her bid to run as a councillor for the City of Darwin’s Chan Ward.

It marks the first public endorsement from any political party in the City of Darwin thus far in the 2025 election campaign.

In a statement, the NT Greens said Ms Wall was “passionate about climate action, accessibility and inclusion, participatory democracy, and youth representation”.

Ms Wall volunteers with Rapid Creek Landcare and Birdlife NT, and she works as a roller-skating coach.

Chan Ward comprises the suburbs of Coconut Grove, East Point, Fannie Bay, Jingili, Ludmilla, Millner, Nightcliff and Rapid Creek.

Current councillor Morgan Rickard, who represents Chan Ward, was backed by the NT Greens in the 2021 local government elections, which he won in.

More recently, NT Greens candidate Kat McNamara narrowly won the electorate of Nightcliff in the 2024 NT Election.

Ms Wall said in a statement that Darwin was “my favourite place on Earth”.

“I’m running for council because I want to make sure that my generation feels that they can build their futures here,” she said.

“I love our community, our town, and our unique way of life. Serving on Council is an opportunity for me to give back to the community that has so fundamentally shaped who I am today.

“Council is so much more than rates, roads and rubbish. Our councils make decisions that impact everyone’s experience of our community for years to come.

“I will be a strong voice for young people in our city, who are currently so under represented on council.

“As a councillor I would push for Darwin to become a leader in climate adaptation and sustainability. Our city has so much potential in this space - we just need the ambition to make it happen.

“I want to see our council investing in public spaces that are accessible, green and safe. These are essential for a thriving, cohesive and inclusive community.

“I will advocate for investment in spaces and programs to engage at-risk young people and people with a disability. Darwin should be a city that enables everyone to feel that they belong here.”
