A routine traffic stop turned into a wild pursuit that has left local authorities hunting for a driver involved in a pursuit during which a police car was rammed.

Around 8pm on Friday, police officers attempted to pull over a Ford Territory with allegedly false plates.

The vehicle was already on their radar, allegedly linked to an earlier pursuit, police said in a statement.

However, the driver allegedly put their foot down, triggering a pursuit that snaked through the streets and quiet neighbourhood of Goonellabah.

The chase reached its climax on Norwood Ave.

As present, the vehicle remains at large, and police are appealing for any information that might lead to its discovery.

Those with any information are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
