A new medical centre is coming to a NSW south coast town’s “growing” health precinct, after a regional council approved its construction.

The $286,440 medical centre was proposed for 22b Church St, Moruya early this year, before it was approved by Eurobodalla Council.

The medical centre will be constructed next to an existing women’s health clinic and opposite a dental clinic, according to planning documents.

Documents also reveal the medical centre will see a single practitioner run the clinic, ranging from general appointments to chiropractor and massaging.

South coast based development firm Dual Design submitted the application to council, with owner Katrina Scobie noting the block had been vacant for some time.

The approved medical clinic would share a similar aesthetic to the existing women's health clinic.

“As the clinic is nestled between a medical clinic and a residential area, care has been taken to create a structure that aesthetically draws from the domestic architectural forms of the area,” she said.

The approved medical centre comes amid calls for more health services in the regional town of 4295.

Plans indicate that this will be the second medical centre in the town – not including specific medical services, such as dental care.

Ms Scobie said, along with the single practitioner, the business would also employ a full time receptionist to help run the day to day operations.

Documents reveal the approved centre will operate Monday to Thursday, with opening times ranging from 10am to 6pm and 8am to 12pm.

“Multiple treatment rooms enables a maximum of two customers at one time to be treated in separate rooms; either for massage or chiropractic,” Ms Scobie said.

“Patients are provided with the luxury of residing longer in their treatment room as the next patient is being treated.”

Ms Scobie said the centre would be operated by a private company – however discussions as to who will run the facility were ongoing.

The approved centre will share a similar design to its existing and neighbouring women’s health clinic, sharing a similar wooden aesthetic.

“The structure is single level with 2.7m ceilings as per the original residential dwellings of the area the scale of the development does not dominate the streetscape nor overpower the residential dwellings surrounding – some of which are double storey,” documents state.

A construction timeline for the centre has not been released.
