Northern Territory’s richest and poorest schools revealed in new data

The NT’s richest school has raked in more than $118.1m in five years with an average cost per student of $19,948, new data has revealed. See the full list.

An independent analysis of school financial records from the MySchool website has shown the massive amount of money some schools make every year, and how little some schools are forced to scrape by on.

The figures revealed Darwin High School in The Gardens had a higher gross income than any other school in the Northern Territory.

The school made a gross income of $118.1m, according to combined financial records from the past five years.

The region’s second richest school was Taminmin College, in Humpty Doo, which had a gross income of $118m.

Its total gross income per student in 2021 was $22,418.

The school with the third highest gross income was Good Shepherd Lutheran College, in Howard Springs, which made $106.4m.

Its total gross income per student in 2021 was $20,204.

The figures include all fees, charges and parental contributions as well as territory and federal fovernment funding and any other private sources over the five years from 2017 to 2021.

It does not include any deductions for capital works or debt servicing.

The analysis does not include special schools or schools that did not have complete financial data in MySchool for one or more of the five years.

Tipperary Station School at Tipperary had the lowest gross income of any school in the Northern Territory.

It made just $2.1m over the five-year period.

Its total gross income fell by 21.4 per cent from 2017 to 2021 while the total gross income per student in 2021 was $75,521.

Douglas Daly School at Douglas-Daly had the second lowest gross income of any school in the Northern Territory.

It made just $2.4m over the five-year period.

Its total gross income increased by 32 per cent from 2017 to 2021 while the total gross income per student in 2021 was $50,548.

Bonya School at Anatye had the third lowest gross income of any school in the Northern Territory.

It made just $2.8m over the five-year period.

Its total gross income increased by 22 per cent from 2017 to 2021 while the total gross income per student in 2021 was $81,677.
