An explosive Territory Day is expected with fireworks sales already topping previous years. It’s your complete Territory Day guide to blowing s#!% up.

Whether it’s with Donald Trump brain-explosion, a blow job on the cheap or a series of air eruptions, here is your chance to set the sky alight this Territory Day.

Fusion Fireworks managing director Luke Caridi said his stock was already selling fast with the big assortment packs including the Mother Load and the Pro-class container load being the most popular.

While he was more than proud to say his business was the “only place in the world you can get a $30 blow job”.

The $495 Pro-Class Load, commonly known as the Camo Box, remains the Territory’s number one selling assortment with 20kg of explosive goodness including the Warhead.

While it remains best in its class selling out for more than a decade, it’s not the only popular item at Fusion with the Mother Load, Bomb Squad, Backyard Blast and Let’s Blow Sh##t up also selling fast.

On the individual firework front there’s a new flyer called Blowflies and a new fountain themed around Donald Trump and the $30 sell-out single shot Blow Job.

Mr Caridi said Fusion Fireworks had imported about 100 tonnes of fireworks for the big day and were expecting to make about $1m in profits.

“People are still going nuts for firework, the buzz and excitement is still out there this year,” he said.

“This year we are nudging 100 tonne of fireworks imported into the Territory and pre-sales are up on last year already, with 300 orders in four days out.

“It definitely is a privilege we get to enjoy this once a year - no one else gets this - so respect the privilege, respect public property and neighbours and have a safe night so it does continue for years to come.

“This is the only place in the world you can get a $30 blow job after all.”

NT WorkSafe inspector Robert Fereday echoed Mr Caridi’s sentiments saying police had the power to hand out $1760 on-the-spot fines to anyone found in breach of firework safety rules.

He said the three main safety tips were to read the labels, make sure fireworks were on stable ground and if a lit firework did not go off wait, five minutes and then douse it in water.

“We encourage all Territorians and others to have a great day on Territory day and if you’re celebrating with fireworks, do so safely,” Mr Fereday said.

“We’re also encouraging everyone to have a safe fireworks day in a manner that doesn’t cause property damage or damage to people and animals.

“When it comes to responsibility we encourage people to only buy enough for use on the night and if there are any unused, contact NT WorkSafe and we will let you know how to dispose of them.”

NT Police Deputy Commissioner Murray Smalpage said police and fire services were focused on how to “help people have a great night and keep people safe”.

“Police will be prepared for any response on Territory Night,” he said.

The Territory’s iconic cracker night is back again for 2023 this Saturday, with firework-fanatics gearing up to celebrate with a bang.

Marking the day the jurisdiction attained a measure of independence from the commonwealth through self-government in 1978, Territory Day remains the only event in Australia in which members of the public can legally let of their own crackers with abandon.

The pyrotechnics will go on sale between 9am and 9pm this Saturday, with explosives enthusiasts free to release their technicolour payloads until 11pm that night.

By noon on Monday, all crackers must be turned in to authorities with their possession again becoming illegal for everyday punters.

Fireworks can be let off in private and public spaces across the jurisdiction on Saturday, except on Mindil Beach in Darwin and at other Territory Day community events across the NT.

Those with unused fireworks leftover can contact NT WorkSafe on 1800 019 115 to organise to hand them in for safe disposal.

The watchdog warns fireworks should not be stored or thrown away as they can deteriorate with age and become a safety risk.

Anyone caught lighting or in possession of fireworks outside of the approved times could face a whopping $1760 fine.

Fireworks can cause serious injury if not handled properly and NT WorkSafe have issued the following safety tips for those handling the explosives.

• Only buy fireworks from a licensed retailer.
• Keep spectators at a safe distance, at least 10 metres from the ignition site.
• Clear the area of all dry materials such as grass and mulch.
• Have a hose or a couple of buckets of water handy.
• Wear cotton clothing around fireworks.
• Keep your fireworks in a covered container or have a responsible person look after them.
• Read and follow all safety labels and instructions.
• Light only one firework at a time.
• Stabilise fireworks to ensure they do not fall over when firing.
• Never point or throw fireworks at another person or place any part of your body directly over a firework device.
• Never pick up or relight a dud firework. Wait 20 minutes, pour water on it and dispose of it properly.
• Never ignite aerial fireworks near or below trees, near a building opening or anything else that it may hit.
• Wet down all fireworks debris after use.
• Don’t drop the fireworks straight into a bin or leave them unattended.
• Always have an adult present and never give fireworks to children under 12.
• Make sure your pets are secured safely before you ignite any fireworks.

What’s on

Free, family-friendly events with official fireworks displays are being held across the NT.

Across the Territory free, family-friendly events with concerts, community BBQs and fireworks will be held on Territory Day.

Darwin: Mindil Beach, 4pm – 8.30pm, including an official fireworks display at 8.10pm, an F-35A flyover, and music from Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows.

Palmerston: Goodline Park, from 5pm, with a live performance from Prayer Corby, food and an official fireworks display at 7.30pm.

Alice Springs: Blatherskite Park, 2.30pm – 7.30pm, including an official fireworks display at 7pm, Colour Frenzy fun run and music from Wolfpack Amadeus.

Katherine: Katherine Showgrounds, from 5pm, with food, entertainment and music and an official fireworks display at 7.30pm.

Tennant Creek: Kargaru Centre, from 5pm, with food, entertainment and performances from the Newboys Band, Jallajirrpa Band, WMC All-Stars, Oleman and Jameson Casson and an official fireworks display at 8.00pm.

Wadeye: Wadeye Oval, from 6.30pm, with an official fireworks display at 7pm.
