A Darwin roofing company is facing a $30,000 penalty if unsuccessful in contesting a fine after an inspector allegedly witnessed a worker standing near the edge of a roof without fall protection.
Roof Power Pty Ltd is contesting the $3640 infringement notice issued over the incident, taking the case to the Darwin Local Court where the company could be forced to pay a much larger fine if unsuccessful.
NT WorkSafe will allege that in April last year, a WorkSafe inspector saw a Roof Power worker standing close to the edge of a roof more than 2m high, without fall protection.
The company was issued with the infringement notice at the time.
Roof Power elected to have the matter dealt with in court, and has been charged with one breach of work health and safety regulations for failing to provide adequate protection to minimise the risk of a fall.
If found guilty the company faces a maximum penalty of $30,000.
The case is listed for mention at the Darwin Local Court on June 6.
