A Central Australian cop who allegedly repeatedly raped a woman remains on the police payroll and has been granted bail.

On Thursday the man in his 50s— who cannot be named for legal reasons — appeared before the Alice Springs Court charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

NT Police alleged the off-duty officer raped a woman known to him last year.

“The member is currently suspended with pay,” a spokesman said.

Judge David Bamber granted the Police Officer bail during his court hearing on Thursday, with his next hearing set for July 31.

At the time of the arrest on Wednesday, NT Police provided a six sentence release in relation to the alleged sexual offending officer — compared to a 14 line release about alleged sexual offending in Larrakeyah.

“Due to the case being before the courts, no additional information will be provided at this time,” a police statement read.

“This update is in accordance with the NT Police Transparency Guidelines.”
