New Tiger Brennan Drive overpass section to open to traffic

Part of the Tiger Brennan overpass development will open to traffic this weekend, marking a significant point of the ongoing project. Read the update.

The Tiger Brennan Drive overpass has reached a significant completion point with the Palmerston bound on and off ramps set to be open to traffic on Saturday.

The development marks the 90 per cent completion point for the project that was originally set to be completed by the end of 2024.

The ramps reconnect Palmerston bound traffic on Tiger Brennan Drive to and from Berrimah Road north, which has been closed since March 2023.

Works began on the project as an attempt to remove on the NT’s most notorious black spots creating a safer drive for commuters from Darwin to Palmerston, and back again.

Temporary traffic management will be in place to ensure only the left turn movement to and from the ramps.

The new overpass will carry traffic from Berrimah over Tiger Brennan Drive, separating the major flow of traffic from the two zones and allowing a quicker commute time.

Access to Berrimah Road south is expected to be restored by the end of February depending on the Wet Season weather.

The works on Tiger Brennan Drive are jointly funded by the federal and NT Governments.
