Police say a man who crashed a car into a guardrail on the Gold Coast last night, injuring a passenger, was drink driving at double the limit.

A MAN who smashed a car into a guardrail on the Gold Coast has been charged with drink driving.

Police allege a 30-year-old from Benowa was driving a white Jeep Cherokee when it lost control and hit a guardrail on Manchester Road in Carrara about 8.20pm.

A 35-year-old male passenger in the vehicle fractured his leg and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital by critical care paramedics.

It is understood the driver of the car was not injured.

It’s alleged the driver blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.120%, which is just over twice the legal limit.

He was given a notice to appear on a drink driving charge and is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on September 24.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
