Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has committed to cutting migration numbers but not gone into any great detail.

The PM was asked in Bundaberg on day two of the campaign trail: Will you commit to cutting migration to halt Australia’s out of control population?

The question was submitted by Sam from Inglewood as part of giving our readers the opportunity to grill the leaders.

Each day of the campaign, readers are invited to submit questions, which are then put the public vote.

The winning question is then asked of both the PM and the Opposition leader.

In his first response to the reader question, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reaffirmed his commitment to cut migrations numbers but would not say how he planned to achieve that outcome beyond cutting international students numbers. SEE THE VIDEO ABOVE

“Well we’ve had a 31 per cent drop, that’s what Tuesday night’s budget showed,” he said while in Bundaberg.

“When we introduced the cap on international students what we saw was Peter Dutton oppose it. Not surprising from a guy who won the gold medal and the silver medal for the minister who has issued the most number of visas in their time as minister.”

Mr Dutton has already promised to slash migration by 25 per cent as part of his bid to win the election.

On Saturday, Mr Albanese’s second press conference after calling the election was derailed after a member of the public interjected accusing the Prime Minister of ramping up migration.

“I can’t get rentals, I can’t get housing anymore,” he shouted.
