Beauty salons, massage parlours, drive-in cinemas, public swimming pools and brothels will all be required to electronically record patrons details under new public health orders that expand the list of venues where checking in is required by law.

It comes as QR code sign-in measures became mandatory for a raft of businesses, as previously announced by the state government.

Announcing the new rules coming into effect, Premier Gladys Berejiklian also suggested an announcement to increase the numbers of patrons allowed in venues and household guests is “imminent”.

Ms Berejiklian would not be drawn on whether businesses would be able to operate under a one person per 2 sqm rule.

“It’s really important for me to get the most updated health advice before we make that final decision,” Ms Berejiklian said.

The new changes will come within days.

“We’re all looking forward to Wednesday where we’ll be making some further announcements,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.

Under new rules that came into effect today, up to 500 people will be able to attend religious services outdoors provided everyone is seated. A two square metre rule will apply if people are assigned a seat, and a four square metre rule will apply if seating areas are allocated.

Choirs of up to 30 will be allowed outdoors, and audiences can sing along provided everyone older than 12 wears a mask.

Controlled and ticketed outdoor events will cater to up to 3,000 people; a 2 sqm rule will apply if people are assigned seats and a 4 sqm rule will apply if people are seated on grass or picnic rugs.

QR codes are now mandatory for restaurants and cafes, while a number of businesses are now required for the first time to collect attendance details.

The latest public health order which came into effect today will expand the list of venues that will be required to operate digitised check in services.

Under new laws, businesses linked with a positive COVID case will also be required to hand over electronic records of patrons within four hours. Previously, businesses had up to 12 hours to hand over the attendance lists.
