COVID-19 Easter guide in NSW: How to celebrate from home

Despite NSW’s tough COVID-19 restrictions, there are a string of businesses still in operation for families to celebrate Easter. From Easter eggs, produce and seafood, here is a complete guide to what’s available. SEE THE FULL LIST

Tough coronavirus restrictions to last at least 90 days

Easter 2020 is set to be unlike any we have ever experienced but current restrictions aside, NSW residents can still enjoy a traditional Easter.

Australian Retailers Association executive director Russel Zimmerman said many retailers had adapted to ensure you can still access goods.

“We need to try and carry on life as close as we can to normal and it’s fair to say kids will want their Easter eggs and people will still want to have their celebrations,” Mr Zimmerman said.

He said people should look to their local stores as many now deliver within their area and have established click and collect options.

If online is not an option, Mr Zimmerman said it was important for customers to be respectful and adhere to social distancing measure when in stores.

“Consumers need to take into account some of these retail stores are struggling,” he said. “Please consider retail employees are all part of the fabric of community, just take your time and be kind to them.”

A traditional Easter for acclaimed chef Alessandro Pavoni is a big Italian gathering for lunch on Sunday but this year, he will be confined to his Northern Beaches home with his mother, wife and their two young children.

“What we are going to do is we are going to cook meals through Easter time with the kids,” Mr Pavoni said.

“I plan to make a menu that is very playful so we can have fun with the kids and because we will be able to spend a few hours creating, we can make most things from scratch.”

His top suggestions for dishes to make with children were gnocchi, orecchiette, tiramisu and lasagne.
“I may order some [Easter] egg moulds as I have the chocolate,” he said.

“We’re going to make a very dirty kitchen, the kids will get very dirty with the chocolate and have a great time because of all the sugar.”

While supermarkets stock many Easter supplies, here are alternatives for NSW residents.
