THE Territory tradition of getting the first camp of the year in over the Easter weekend will look a little different this year, with families bound to their backyards.
It follows advice from the Government to pitch their tents at home instead this year.
Parks and Wildlife executive director Sally Egan said: “Some areas of our parks or reserves are open so you can exercise or enjoy some fresh air in line with physical distancing measures.
“Camping is not an option this year with the current advice to stay home, if you can.”

Mel Matheson and her family usually spent the weekend away with about 20 others but this year will instead pitch a tent outside at their Wanguri home.
“We’ll be swimming in the pool and putting the tent up in the backyard,” she said.
“We’ll probably take some pictures and pop them on Facebook like most people do as we can’t camp with our regular group this year.”
Ms Matheson said her son Ky, 8, would often drop his line in the pool to feed his fishing appetite.

Amateur Fishermen’s Association chief executive David Ciaravolo said that fishing was integral to life in the Territory and fishos should keep in touch with their rods and reels as best they could.
“Fish locally if you can but many families have told us they won’t be fishing this Easter, which is unusual,” he said.
“Instead, they’ll be catching up on fishing flick videos, tying rigs and staying connected to their love of fishing that way.”
