The Northern Expressway has been reopened several hours after a B-double truck caught fire this morning, killing several chickens on board.
Several chickens have been killed after the trailer they were in caught fire on the Northern Expressway this morning.
Police say the blaze broke out in the rear trailer of a B-double truck about 4am while driving on the Northern Expressway in the Andrews Farm-Munno Para area.
The truck driver, who was alerted to the flames by a passing motorist, managed to detach the burning trailer from the prime mover and was not injured.
Sadly, a number of chickens were killed in the fire and the rest will be euthanised.
The exact cause is still undetermined.
Citybound traffic was blocked for several hours, as motorists were diverted at the Angle Vale exit throughout the peak rush.
The road fully reopened about 9.30am.

PEDESTRIAN HIT BY CAR IN HACKHAM
A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Hackham.
The male pedestrian was struck just after 5.30am today and suffered serious leg and head injuries.
He was rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre but his injuries are not considered life-threatening at this stage.
The driver was taken to the Noarlunga Hospital for shock.
Main South Rd was closed for southbound traffic from Mick O'Sheas pub, but re-opened about 8.45am.

Australia has welcomed the release of Jock Palfreeman from detention in Bulgaria, but is concerned he is still being blocked from leaving the country.

There has been a crash in Para Hills West on McIntyre Rd at Bridge Rd, while a tow truck is on the way to the scene of an earlier crash on Portrush Rd near Greenhill Rd, just in front of Burnside Village.
In Modbury, crews are clearing up debris on North East Rd at Montague Rd and there has been a crash involving a truck in Buckland Park on Thompson Rd at Port Wakefield Rd.
The Northern Expressway remains closed for citybound traffic at Angle Vale Rd for the fire, while crews are still clearing up an oil spill on Greenhill Rd at Mount Lofty Summit Rd in Cleland.
Chief St northbound is closed from Third St to Hawker St due to a burst water main.

More than 2000 properties are without power in Adelaide's southern suburbs this morning.
The blackout was caused by a surge of lightning, and crews expect to restore power about 9.15am.
Affected suburbs are Aberfoyle Park, Chandlers Hill, Happy Valley and Onkaparinga Hills.
