A man has fled after a bungled car theft that left a sedan tipped on to its side at Hillbank.

A resident woke to hear his car being started and reversed out of the driveway of his home on Gladman Close about 4.20am on Monday.

But the suspect did not noticed the angled driveway and drove the car over the boundary retaining wall, tipping the sedan onto its side and into the neighbouring property.

The man got out of the car and ran away. He was not found despite patrols, including a police dog, searching the area.

He was described as wearing dark clothing, about 165cm tall and with black curly hair.

The 2011 Commodore sedan was severely damaged and was towed away from the neighbour’s property.

Earlier this month an alleged thief with more brawn than brains was caught waiting for a bus with guitars and laptops that were stolen from a house just two metres away.

The man dropped two electric guitars and two laptops and fled when police arrived at an Underdale home after reports of a home invasion just after 8pm on Friday, November 8.

Anyone with information on the car theft or similar incidents in the Hillbank area is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
