A woman co-accused of an alleged “random” late-night abduction of a teenage girl has been deemed an “unacceptable risk” to the public as more details emerge about the bizarre incident.

Kashya Ann Poyner fronted Mackay Magistrates Court where it was heard she had a criminal history that included elements of “violence” and “dishonesty”.

It is alleged about 12.30am on November 13 the 26 year old and a co accused came across two strangers on a Tinder date at North Wall beach and, while both wearing balaclavas, threatened the couple with a hockey stick in an attempted carjacking.

Police allege a 22-year-old man was able to drive off in his vehicle, while the pair forced an 18-year-old girl into their car and took her to a Bucasia home where she remained for several hours before she was released.

Aaron James Davis, 32, has been charged alongside Ms Poyner with two counts of attempted armed robbery/in company and one count each of deprivation of liberty and face masked, blackened or disguised with intent to commit an indictable offence over the incident.

He remains in custody on remand and his matters have been adjourned to a later date.

During a bail application for Ms Poyner it was revealed the mother-of-four was on bail at the time of the alleged November 13 abduction and had two failure to appear in court charges hanging over her.

The court heard she had only recently moved to Mackay to be with her new partner, the father of her youngest child.

Police Prosecutor Leonie Taufa’ao asked Magistrate Damien Dwyer to deny Ms Poyner bail.

But defence solicitor Danny Yarrow said his client had only a “brief” criminal history and would willingly submit to any bail orders imposed, including curfews and a GPS monitoring tracker.

Ms Poyner, appearing via videolink from the Mackay watch-house, asked to live at her mother’s address in Nambour while the matter progressed.

Magistrate Dwyer argued the existing failure to appear charges weighed against her application.

“Why would she show up in Mackay when she won’t show up in Cairns or Townsville?” Mr Dwyer asked.

Mr Dwyer said Ms Poyner’s history suggested she may also interfere with witnesses if granted bail.

“I am not satisfied you are not going to interfere with witnesses,” he said.

“I am not satisfied you are going to show up.

“You have got two failed to appear (charges) in Townsville on Monday and it seems to me the strength of those are very good.”

Mr Dwyer also said the allegations against Ms Poyner were “strong” and the alleged attack had likely been “random”.

“It seems to me that the evidence against you is strong,” he said.

“The allegations suggest a random attack on innocent young people late at night, in an attempt to steal their car.

“It also involves the use of a weapon against an 18-year-old girl.”

Mr Dwyer refused Ms Poyner’s application for bail.

She was remanded in custody until February 8, 2023 for a committal mention where she is due to appear via videolink.
