Two women flown to hospital following car crash on Thiele Hwy in Kapunda

Two women are in hospital after a helicopter and several emergency vehicles responded to a road crash near Barossa Valley.

Two women are in hospital following a serious road crash in Kapunda on Wednesday afternoon.

An 88-year-old woman, the driver of the vehicle, and her passenger, a 76-year-old woman both from Kapunda were taken to hospital.

One woman has been taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital and another to Royal Adelaide Hospital.

An SAAS spokesman said one of the women sustained neck and chest injuries while the other was in serious condition.

At 12.54pm police and emergency services were called to the Thiele Highway at Kapunda after reports that a car had left the road and collided with a tree.

Two emergency vehicles were dispatched to the highway, located just outside the main town of Kapunda.

At 1.06pm CFS sent an update indicating a helicopter landing site would be required for the road crash rescue.

Both CFS and SES have responded to the incident. It is believed up to six emergency vehicles were involved in the rescue, which lasted until 3pm on Wednesday.

Police have stated roads have since reopened in the area.
