A Whittington teenager has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a pursuit across Geelong in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said officers first spotted the allegedly stolen Toyota Hilux on the Princes Hwy in Corio about midnight before losing sight of the ute.

The police chopper was called in and followed the vehicle to Verdal Crt in Grovedale, where the ute was allegedly dumped and the driver fled the scene.

“The driver and sole occupant, a 19-year-old Whittington man, was arrested after a short foot pursuit in Hindle St, Grovedale,” Constable Jackson said.

The teenager has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and possessing methamphetamine.

He will front the Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday.
