A Newtown woman grieving the death of her two family dogs has been left shattered after their ashes were stolen from her home.

A woman grieving the death of her two family dogs has been left shattered after their ashes were stolen.

Newtown mum Jane Cameron, 59, has asked the alleged theif to “show some compassion”

after the remains of her recently deceased schnoodles, Pepsi and Max, were snatched from the back seat of her car on Monday night.

She had been planning to spread their ashes at their favourite walking places at Fyansford, Sparrow Park and the Newtown Primary School before the bandit struck.

The pets died within five weeks of each other.

“They were siblings, both 14 years old and have never been separated,” she said.

“I had them in the back seat, inside two bags in white tins, and was going to sprinkle their ashes in a little ceremony with my kids.

“It’s pretty sad and I’m heartbroken.”

It’s believed the alleged theft took place sometime after 10pm on George Street, on June 26.

Ms Cameron is now asking neighbours to check their gardens and bins in the hope the remains may have been discarded in the area.

“I’m sure they have just opened the bags somewhere and realised it is nothing of value, so maybe they have just tossed them” she said.

“I can’t imagine them having enough compassion to bring them back, but you never know they could show some compassion.

“If they happen to see this, they could drop them into a vet or put them back in the front yard

“It would mean the world to me.”

Ms Cameron has made a statement to Geelong police, who are investigating.
