A man who supplied drugs to children and also sexually assaulted a child on the Bellarine Peninsula has been jailed.

Marcus Stevens, 43, of no fixed address, was sentenced in the County Court in Melbourne after he pleaded guilty to two charges of supplying a drug of dependence to a child and two charges of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16.

Stevens was staying at a friend’s place when he committed the sexual assault.

At the time of the offence, two young children were staying at the house with Stevens and while one of the children was asleep in the lounge room, Stevens pulled his pants down and placed his genitals on the child.

This was witnessed by the other child staying at the home.

Court documents reveal Stevens was kicked out of the house in his second week at the premises due to his erratic behaviour.

This included writing obscenities on his vehicle as well as defecating on the bathroom floor and his bedroom.

After he was kicked out, Stevens rang up the victim’s mother to pick him up and asked if she would be able to accommodate him.

When the woman was driving Stevens to her home she observed him talking in a manic state and gave him Valium tablets to calm him down.

Stevens was not allowed to sleep inside the home, but was allowed inside to use the bathroom.

Court documents reveal Stevens went inside the home and sexually assaulted the child in a bedroom.

The victim’s mother found the child in the bathroom in the early hours of the morning. The child told her mother what had happened. Police arrived at about 2.30am, and arrested Stevens.

Between February and March 2022, Stevens was staying at a property in Tullamarine and was looking after two young girls when he gave them a brownie containing cannabis.

In a separate incident between February and March of the same year, Stevens supplied a young girl with a bong and a lighter and regularly supplied her with cannabis.

Judge Tinney convicted and sentenced Stevens to four and a half years jail. He will be eligible for parole once he has served 33 months.
