An investigation is underway after a 49-year-old man was killed in a tragic car accident in a small Otways Ranges town.
Emergency services rushed to Forrest on Tuesday night after reports of a car rollover on Rivendell Lane, on the outskirts of the rural community.
The driver of the vehicle, who police identified as a local resident, died at the scene.
A police spokeswoman has called for any witnesses to the tragedy to contact police.
Crews from the CFA and SES were called to the crash and assisted.
Forrest, with a population of about 240 people, is located about 40 minutes inland from both Lorne and Apollo Bay.
The death follows a number of recent tragedies in the Otways region.
Two people were killed in a freak accident in August when a tree fell on their car during wild weather in Gellibrand.
A 77-year-old man and 73-year-old woman, both from NSW, were trapped after the tree came down on their vehicle during a wild storm.
In June, two people were found dead on a remote coastal track in an apparent suicide pact.
The bodies of Surf Coast couple Bart Wissink, 78, and his partner Kaye Salisbury, 74, were located with gunshot wounds by a passer-by at Gellibrand Lower.
They were on a walking track near Wreck Beach, with indications the pair had agreed to take their lives at the same time.
Anyone who witnessed the Forrest crash, has CCTV, dashcam footage or any other information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
