A car carrying two children has slammed into an Armstrong Creek house, creating dramatic scenes in the usually quiet suburban street.
The man driving the Ford SUV was arrested by police soon after the crash occurred on the corner of Eaglebay Rd and Shipstern St around 7.30pm on Wednesday.
The children were not injured but taken to hospital for observation.
It is believed the house, which suffered significant structural damage, was empty at the time.
A large crowd of onlookers, many of them visibly shocked, remained at the scene after 8pm as police and SES volunteers managed the situation.
Some onlookers said they were alerted to the incident after hearing a loud bang, while others said the power in their homes flickered momentarily.
The car appeared to have been travelling east along Eaglebay Rd, which has a speed limit of 50km/h.
No skid marks were visible at the scene.
A police spokeswoman said the exact circumstances surrounding the collision were still to be determined and anyone with information was urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
