Two people were taken to hospital following a two-car collision at a Bellarine intersection on Wednesday afternoon.

The collision, which saw one vehicle flip onto its roof, occurred just after 1pm at the intersection of Swan Bay and Banks roads in Mannerim.

The pair were taken to Geelong hospital by ambulance, with their condition unclear at this point.

There have been a number of accidents in recent years on Swan Bay Rd, which stretches for 12km from the Bellarine Highway to Swan Bay boat ramp.

In November last year, a van carrying toilet paper collided with a four-wheel drive at the intersection of Swan Bay and Portarlington-Queenscliff roads.

In March 2022, Portarlington’s Rachel Watts died after a crash at the same intersection.

Xiao Bo Zhang, a prominent Geelong heart surgeon, avoided jail over that crash.

The 67-year-old was instead convicted and placed on an 18-month community corrections order.
