Late-night dessert bar Armageddon Cake launches Geelong CBD comeback

A popular late-night Geelong dessert bar is making its grand comeback in the CBD, complete with classic sweet treats.

A popular Geelong dessert bar has announced plans for a grand comeback after its closure three years ago.

Sweet-tooths were left disappointed in 2020, when Armageddon Cake announced plans to close its Malop St venue.

The popular spot – known for its retro vibes, quirky fit-out and board games – moved to Malop St in 2018 after operating out of a smaller McLarty Place location just off Little Malop St.

Armageddon is promising many sweet treats and old favourites when it returns.

Now, new owner Charles Corby – a former manager of the bar’s previous iteration – said his crew was looking forward to bringing back old favourites and new flavours, close to Armageddon’s original home.

“It’s somewhere to visit when people want an evening activity that isn’t just going out for dinner or drinks,” he said.

“Of course we’ll be bringing back everyone’s favourite cakes as well.”

Menu items earmarked for a comeback included the Baked New York cheesecake, the salted caramel mousse cake and the death by chocolate mud cake.

Mr Corby, who purchased the store from his friend and former boss, said he wanted to bring back the magic and soul of the original McLarty Place laneway store.

“I think the quirky preloved furniture from around Geelong made the place unique,” he said. “Every chair and table has a story.”

While a specific location is yet to be announced, Mr Corby said the new store would be “off Little Malop St” and is expected to open halfway through the year.

“I’m excited to see everyone’s faces when they come back in for cake, and to be able to take in the new location,” he said.
