Hundreds of Geelong and Surf Coast students have topped the state’s VCE results, achieving study scores of above 40 in an array of subjects.

The Geelong College 2024 school captain Annabelle Hutchings woke up early on Thursday to check ATAR results.

She said she was shocked to find herself one of Geelong’s top-performing students.

“I was in disbelief,” she said.

She’d managed to score an ATAR of 98.9 having completed just four subjects, including Latin in which she achieved a near perfect study score of 49.

Geelong College principal Peter Miller said he was thrilled to see 28.4 per cent of the school’s students achieved an ATAR over 90, and 14.5 per cent achieved study scores over 40.

“Our 180 VCE students have excelled, and demonstrated exceptional dedication, resilience and passion in everything they have done,” Dr Miller said.

Dr Miller said the school’s median ATAR was 79.55, six ranking points above the state average.

“This indicates the continuing strength of our academic program, and the wonderful support provided to our students,” he said.

A college spokeswoman said 18.8 per cent of their students had finished VCE with an ATAR over 80.

The school’s dux Lara Truong took out an ATAR of 95.95, and recorded an impressive study score of 44 in German.

At Christian College, acting principal Mr Rick Geall said nine of the school’s students had achieved an ATAR above 90, and this year’s average ATAR was 65.6.

“The 2024 Year 12 cohort demonstrated remarkable dedication and resilience, which have led to exceptional achievements across all levels of ability,” he said,

Please note that not all students who received a study score of 40 or more have given permission for their results to be published.

Consequently, the range of study scores appearing in this publication is not comprehensive.
