A major Geelong high school was plunged into lockdown just days after a similar incident at Geelong College.

Geelong High School was locked down on Tuesday morning as the school enacted “student safety procedures”.

In an email sent to parents and carers, acting principal Christopher Pugh informed them of a “code yellow activation”.

Mr Pugh said the lockdown was in response to an unspecified incident at the school.

“From (about) 10.15am students remained in their classrooms for about 45 minutes,” Mr Pugh said.

“Victoria Police attended the school and provided assistance.

“Once the school was deemed to be safe, we returned to our normal routine and students will be dismissed as normal today.”

Mr Pugh said he was pleased at the manner the students responded to the incident, as the school “regularly” practised safety procedures.

“The health and safety of our students and staff is always a top priority,” he said.

“Student support services are available to provide wellbeing support to our students.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police responded to reports of a student behaving “erratically”.

“No offences were detected,” she said.

Earlier, on October 8, two teenage boys were arrested after threats were allegedly made to The Geelong College sending its junior and middle school campuses into lockdown for about an hour.

A letter to families from principal Peter Miller said the school had acted on the advice of Victoria Police.

“The matter is under investigation by Victoria Police and we are absolutely confident there was never any risk of harm,” Dr Miller said.

“The lockdown was an important precaution while the situation was assessed by police.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said Geelong Criminal Investigation Unit detectives were continuing to investigate the incident.

“Two teenage boys were arrested and have been released pending further inquiries,” the spokeswoman said.

“The investigation remains ongoing.”
