Geelong Wine Show crowns region’s best wines at 2022 awards

The region’s best wines have been revealed, as the Geelong Wine Show recognised stars in the field. SEE THE LIST

The best wines of the Geelong region have been crowned at the 23rd Geelong Wine Show.

The Show aims to promote excellence in wine growing in the region, broadly promote the wines of the region to the wine trade and wine-drinking public, and identify the best wines of the region each year, as well as foster links between sponsors and the wine industry.

Fyansford’s Provenance Wines took out the highly-coveted top gong, recognised for the 2022 best in show trophy for its 2021 Geelong shiraz.

Judging took place over two days, with 229 wines from 31 producers considered for a number of industry awards.

Chief of judges John Harris of Ballarat’s Mitchell Harris Wines said it was a “real thrill” to see the quality of winemaking and the diversity of the Geelong subregions on display.

He said Provenance’s win was “well deserved”.

“Judges were impressed with the medal-winning wines across all classes that exhibited good fruit purity and concentration, and considerate winemaking expertise,” he said.

“(The team at Provenance) continue to be an example of our great wineries in Geelong who showcase the quality and strength of the region as a whole.”

Show chair and Oakdene Wines manager Steven Paul said the event continued to bring together large and small producers from across the Geelong wine region, showcasing the quality and diversity of their wines.

The public will be able to taste the winning wines on November 26 from 1-4pm at ALMA restaurant on Ryrie St.
