A man and two children were taken to hospital after a unit caught fire in Hamlyn Heights on Friday night.

Firefighters were called to the Church Street property about 11.10pm.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a man believed to be in his 30s was assessed for smoke inhalation and taken to Geelong hospital in a stable condition.

“Two primary school aged children were also assessed for smoke inhalation and taken to University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition,” she said.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said three people evacuated the premises.
