Police are fielding triple-0 calls from people who are blocked into carparks at Geelong train station, with some reportedly stuck in their vehicles for up to four hours.

Officers plan to fine people who work in Geelong’s CBD and are parking at the Latrobe Terrace car park, which is specifically marked for V/Line passengers.

Spaces are currently reduced due to urgent works.

Police have seen people unable to get out due to illegally parked cars outside marked bays and in no-standing areas.

They have also seen an increase in complaints received about the issue, and have reported some people are waiting up to four hours in their cars before being able to leave.

Senior-Constable Stacey Nott said police were called to the car park on Tuesday in relation to a woman who couldn’t get her vehicle out.

“She had children that required pick up from daycare – which didn’t happen as a result,” she said.

“The offending vehicle was towed and issued with an infringement notice for $192.

“The owner of the towed vehicle thought the car had been stolen.”

Between Tuesday and Thursday, police issued 41 infringement notices at the carpark.

Police are aware hundreds of people who work in the Geelong CBD park their vehicles in the V/Line train car park and walk into town.

They have identified an opportunity to work with V/Line and us CCTV to see who those people are.

These workers face infringement notices and possibly having their cars towed.

Urgent repair works on the water supply at Geelong station left the carparking situation in more chaos than usual this week as the number if parks was reduced.

Works began Wednesday night and are expected to be completed sometime next week.

A V/Line spokesman said the organisation apologised to passengers for any inconvenience while it conducted urgent water supply works at the carpark.

“Some car parks will be unavailable while we work to complete repairs and passengers may wish to consider alternate stations or use the local bus network to travel to and from Geelong station,” he said.

V/Line installed temporary fencing for safety during the works.

Parking is available at other stations along the line and there are local bus connections for passengers considering alternative options.
