Ashley John Elkin sentenced for drug trafficking

A 41-year-old Geelong man with a history of drug trafficking has been sentenced.

A Herne Hill man with a history of drug trafficking was found with quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine at Flemington in the early hours of the morning.

Ashley John Elkin pleaded guilty in Geelong Magistrates Court to trafficking.

Police prosecutor Kerrie Ann Maroney said at 2.30am January 20 this year Elkin was found by police on Racecourse Rd, Flemington.

The 41-year-old was slurring his words, had glazed eyes and appered to been drug affected.

Ms Maroney said police searched Elkin and discovered he had a number of plastic bags on him.

A further pat down revealed Elkin was in possession of 22g and 8g of methamphetamine.

He was then arrested and taken to Broadmeadow police station.

Elkin’s lawyer, Adrian Paull, said his client had previously been placed on a community corrections order for trafficking drugs but did not commit any offences from 2007-2021.

Magistrate Simon Guthrie said Elkin was facing serious charges and contemplated sending him to jail.

Mr Guthrie ordered Elkin to take part in the Court Integrated Services Program and said he expected Elkin to fully engage with the program.
