A Norlane man who stole $15,000 worth of items from a home in Barwon Heads, smashed through the property’s garage door after a failed attempt to rip a gun safe from the wall.

Adam Robinson, 27, ransacked the home on February 4 after he gained entry through the laundry window.

Robinson pleaded guilty to charges in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday which included thefts, handling stolen goods, burglary, possession of methamphetamine and committing indictable offences while on bail.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Chris Sinfield said in relation to the incident in Barwon Heads, Robinson ransacked the home and stole personal documents.

Mr Sinfield told the court Robinson used a stolen Toyota HiLux to smash through the garage door and tied a strap around a gun safe, and made several attempts to rip it from the wall using the HiLux but was unsuccessful.

Instead, Robinson stole personal documents and jewellery to the value of about $15,000 and caused $30,000 worth of damage to the garage.

On January 28, this year, two cars were stolen from an automotive dealer in North Geelong by unknown offenders, with one of the cars being the Toyota HiLux involved in the burglary.

When he was interviewed by police, Robinson said he made contact with an undisclosed person that evening and was asked to collect a stolen car from the side of the road.

The court was told Robinson admitted to driving the stolen HiLux used in the burglary.

On January 26, this year, Robinson attended a cafe in Newtown in the early hours of the morning and forced entry into the business by jamming the door open and stole about $1500 from the premises.

On February 9, Robinson burgled a fish and chip shop in Seabrook and stole iPads and other electronic devices.

After a member of the public called police in regards to suspicious activity, police found Robinson in the early hours of the morning after the vehicle had crashed.

Police found $756.70 in loose cash, $427 in a pillowcase, $300 in a wallet and an iPhone stolen during one of the burglaries.

Robinson will be sentenced in court on Thursday.
