On the back of a record year, the highly anticipated Palmerston Youth Festival is set to return for its sixth year, council documents show.
While unconfirmed, likely dates for the event are July 5-11, according the City of Palmerston's latest available council agenda.
This year’s festival will comprise of seven events — two major and five bespoke, including a new addition.
A number of competitions will also be open to young people throughout the week to encourage participation.
The end-of-festival concert has been removed from the format this year to make way for the two-day expansion of Geekfest Top End at Event Cinema.
The change comes after last year’s Geekfest event proved the biggest drawcard with 4380 attendees.
As a result, both day one and two of this year’s program will honour Palmerston’s thriving geek culture, with the event to offer attendees the opportunity to play video games on the big screen, immerse themselves in the gaming lounge and relax with a geek-inspired movie.
Looking ahead towards day three, the NAIDOC Pool Party will return to SWELL for its second year.
The party coincides with NAIDOC Week, offering exciting opportunities to honour and recognise the rich cultural heritage of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
For day four, Pamper Palmy will return to celebrate youth empowerment.
The event will include stallholders providing information to youth; activities, offering opportunities to try new experiences; and workshops, offering practical skills to help nurture participants’ mental health.
Coming in to the back end of the festival, the popular Sportsfest event returns on day five to offer opportunities for personal growth and sporting achievement, regardless of skill level.
According to the report, the event will help improve the physical and mental wellbeing of young people, build self-confidence and form meaningful relationships with their peers.
Igniting a spark on day six of the festival will be the Creative Collective at Palmerston Recreation Centre.
The new addition will provide a diverse range of workshops and hands on activities for participants to unleash their creativity and explore new artistic expressions.
On the final day of the event, Palmy’s Got Talent will be hosted at the Palmerston Markers at Goyder Square to showcase the range of talent within the region.
From comedy, circus skills, dance to vocalists, the event will provide a platform for emerging and professional talent to showcase their range of skills and talents within an inclusive, professional environment.
