Emergency services responded to reports of the crash at 2.50pm.

Queensland Police crews are at the scene and Queensland Ambulance Service has sent five paramedic crews to assist the injured.

An employee at Mobil Mirriwinni said northbound traffic has backed up on the Bruce Highway.

“Our traffic has slowed down, virtually to a stop and the coppers flew though (at speed,) so it must be north of Mirriwinni,” they said.

Police have advised motorists urged to avoid the area as both highway lanes remain blocked.

A QAS spokeswoman said two male patients, one with head, arm and leg injuries, the other with head and arm injuries were taken to Cairns Hospital.

They are both in serious condition.

The crash follows a single vehicle motorcycle crash this morning on the Mulligan Highway.
