RED Bull air racer and former RAAF fighter pilot Matt Hall performed an enthralling aerobatics display over Cairns Esplanade on Thursday afternoon.
Mr Hall was in Cairns to speak at a Regional Aviation Association conference, but not before he showed the Far North just how far he could push his plane to the limit.
The display above Cairns Esplanade began about 4.45pm. Hundreds of spectators gathered along the esplanade’s walls, transfixed by the aerial phenomena.
Mr Hall put his plane through flips, spins and rolls and, at times, made it look as if his plane would drop out of the sky, only to arrest the fall at the last safe moment.
Cairns man Michael Cox enjoyed the show with his son Oscar, who was particularly fascinated by the “loop de loops”.
“It was really good; we haven’t had anything like this for a long time,” Mr Cox said.
“More often would be good.”
Katie Gold, Mr Hall’s commercial director, said the elite pilot performed an extreme aerobatic display with highly technical manoeuvres.
“Matt performs one of the best displays on the planet and is dialling up to perform in Los Angeles in a week’s time,” Ms Gold said.
