A man remains stuck in a truck and a rescue helicopter has been called to assist emergency service crews after a single-vehicle crash in Gunnawarra, 204km southwest of Cairns.
Emergency services responded to reports of a truck crashing into a tree on the Kennedy Highway at 1.20pm on Thursday.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed man in his 70s was being assessed with serious head and leg injuries.
“The patient is still encapsulated in the truck at this stage,” the spokeswoman said.
“He’s got serious injuries, but is stable at this stage.”
The spokeswoman confirmed the helicopter would likely land on the highway, potentially causing disruption to motorists.
