A teen has been charged after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife during a daylight break-in, with police also charging three other youths over a string of crimes across Cairns.

Queensland police allege the 17-year-old Cairns boy forced his way into a Mount Sheridan home about midday on Tuesday, August 12, through a closed, but unlocked front door.

He is then alleged to have stolen the woman’s car keys from the kitchen bench.

Police said the homeowner heard the front door open and chased the teen out of the house, before it’s alleged he threatened her with a knife and stole the car.

Multiple police units later boxed in the stolen vehicle at Mount Sheridan Shopping Centre about 2.30pm that same day, arresting the teen at the scene.

Police have further alleged the Cairns boy was also involved in the theft and use of stolen vehicles from Mount Sheridan, Edge Hill, Kewarra Beach and Kanimbla earlier this week.

He was charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of enter with intent and one count of robbery and will appear in Cairns Children’s Court on Wednesday, August 13.

Also charged was a 15-year-old Mooroobool boy, accused of stealing cars and breaking into homes and businesses in Mount Sheridan, Woree, Manunda and Freshwater in the past 10 days.

He faces a total of 20 charges, including three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, ten counts of enter premises, four counts of stealing and three counts of enter dwelling.

Additionally, a 16-year-old Manoora boy was charged with the alleged theft of two cars on Monday, August 11, while a 13-year-old Mooroobool boy was charged after allegedly assaulting another teen and stealing his bicycle on Saturday afternoon.

Police bail was refused for all boys and they are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court on August 13.
