12-year-old Mooroobool boy charged with fire offences over grass and shed fire

A 12-year-old boy has been charged following a fire at a shed and surrounding vegetation in Mooroolbool.

A 12-year-old boy has been charged following a fire at a shed and surrounding vegetation on Friday, October 6.

About 4.30pm on October 6, police were called to a property in Sunflower Drive Mooroobool after reports that a grass fire had engulfed a shed at the rear of the property.

Officers from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended were also called.

On arrival they extinguished the blaze which was contained to the shed and vegetation at the property.

No persons were injured, and a police investigation commenced.

Following the investigation, officers from the Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit arrested a 12-year-old Mooroobool boy and charged him with one count each of setting fire to vegetation and wilful damage on Monday, October 24.

He was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Investigations are ongoing.
