Bowen mower rollover leaves man with serious injuries

A man has been rushed to hospital with significant injuries following a ride-on mower rollover, just a day after a farmer was killed in a tractor tragedy.

Emergency services have rushed to the scene of a ride-on mower rollover, which comes after two tractor crashes.

On Sunday, Queensland Ambulance Service raced to a private property off MacDonald Close amid reports a man in his 70s suffered serious injuries in a tractor rollover.

It is understood it was actually a ride-on mower rather than a tractor despite initial reports.

The three-officer crew received the call-out at 11.41am, arriving on-scene at 11.54am.

The man was taken to Bowen Hospital with obvious leg injuries and significant head injuries.

He has since been transferred to Mackay Base Hospital.

This latest incident follows the tragic death of cane farmer Tony Galea, 87, in a tractor accident on a property south of Mackay on Saturday morning.

Mr Galea’s 57-year-old son Mark also suffered serious injuries in the incident, which occurred at about 7am near Alligator Creek.

Multiple ambulance crews and a critical care paramedic rushed to the property where the elderly father died at the scene.

Mark was taken to Mackay Base Hospital with a back injury.

A police spokesman said the death was sudden and non-suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

“The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has been advised,” the spokesman said.

On August 6, a man died at a rural property in Koumala after being crushed by a tractor.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked to the scene and the rescue chopper landed on flat ground as paramedics performed CPR on the man for over an hour.

An RACQ CQ Rescue spokeswoman said the man had been working alone on a tractor on a hill on the property more than 60km south of Mackay and did not return home at the expected time.

“A family member set off an hour later in search and tragically found the man crushed between the tractor and a tree,” she said.

“It is believed the tractor came off the track and slid down a siding, pinning the driving against the tree.”
