Aussie music superstar Tones and I showed her love to Townsville ahead of her NTI Townsville 500 performance on Saturday, with a pop-up concert on Friday afternoon.

More than 1000 people descended on the Jezzine Barracks amphitheatre, following a post from the singer on Facebook on Thursday afternoon saying she would perform songs and sign pre-ordered vinyls.

As well as performing a selection of her hits, Tones and I met and took photos with fans, many of whom were overcome with emotion at meeting their idol.

In between songs she said how overwhelmed she was by the love she had received from the city during her career.

“It’s one of those things where I might have to look back and realise just how incredible the Townsville community is. Today and the show I play tomorrow and the show I previously came and performed with P!nk, I don’t think anything will really top this moment,” she said to the crowd.

Eight-year-old superfan Charlie Smedes was up from NSW visiting family in Townsville and heard about the surprise performance. Singing along close to the front, Charlie and her cousin, 10 year-old Sienna Nichols, were overjoyed to see their favourite singer up close.

“I have never seen her before and it was really cool,” Charlie said.

On her favourite Tones and I song, she said she ‘loves lots of her songs’.

“My favourites are Cloudy, Dance Monkey and Never See The Rain.”

The singer, who’s real name is Toni Watson, has cemented her status as one of Australia’s most loved performers since exploding onto the scene with her global smash-hit Dance Monkey.
She announced earlier in the year that she will play two shows in Townsville as part of her Australia and New Zealand Tour, which have already sold out.

Tones and I will perform at NTI Townsville Supercars on Saturday night, along with CYRIL and G Flip.
