A club appeal over a post-match fracas at Marrara has been delayed due to court action

A two-club appeal against massive bans handed to five Women’s Premier League footballers has been postponed by at least a month as one of the players faces court.

A two-club appeal against hefty bans handed to five Women’s Premier League footballers following a violent post-match brawl in June has been delayed for at least a month.

There was an incident in the car park at Marrara on June 26 following a match between Hellenic and Port Darwin which police believe was an “escalation” after the game.

Two Hellenic players were banned for two and three years respectively, and a Port Darwin player for two years, following a league investigation.

A Hellenic and a Port Darwin player also received 12-week prohibition orders, with four weeks suspended.

However, 18-year-old Paris Makrylos, a bench player during the game, was involved in the incident and has been charged with assault.

She will face court next month.

The matter was adjourned for a second time on Monday with a directions hearing set for November.

No other charges have been laid at this time.

A Football NT spokesperson told the NT News the appeal would not be held until the case had been dealt with.
“It is expected that the disciplinary hearing will be postponed until the court case is finalised,” the spokesperson said.

A three-person panel will hear the appeal, consisting of people from the realms of AFL and Indigenous affairs.

In an earlier statement to the NT News, Football Northern Territory said the players’ behaviour was “detrimental to the good name of the game” and had brought the sport into disrepute, following an independent investigation.
